About/Contact

The Warren Middle Passage Project is an all-volunteer group researching the history of the slave trade and enslavement in Warren, Rhode Island. Founded by Patricia Mues, who co-chairs the group along with Sarah Weed, the Project’s goal is to document that history. Our work has included the placement of a marker on Water Street that gives a brief history of Warren’s involvement in the slave trade and the people enslaved within our Town, the addition of heretofore unrecognized soldiers on the Town’s Honor Roll and the addition of early Warren history to the Town’s website.  We contiue to research the men, women and children who were enslaved here, to better understand the crucial role African-Americans have played in the building of Warren, Rhode Island and the United States.
